The HP Color 1500L Printer Under The Lense
Taking the measure of the HP color LaserJet 1500l printer using Color LaserJet 1500L cartridges will quickly reveal that one is looking at a very nice and low priced laser printer that could be an excellent choice for almost any business that will need a nice printer but at a price that won’t break the bank. This particular model comes with a very nice print speed and quality that matches that speed. It’s also designed for true workgroup networks and comes with excellent connectivity.
As far as what Hewlett-Packard says the print speed is, it will print out nicely enough in monochrome to attract the attention of most any small business person looking for a low-cost, yet relatively quick printer from Hewlett-Packard. At 16 pages of print per minute, in monochrome, that’s more than enough to overcome the fact that it only prints at four pages per minute in color. It would seem that black and white is the intended use.
Connectivity is through standard USB, with no other option available. In today’s wired world this is really no big issue. The printer doesn’t come standard with the USB cable, though, so keep that in mind when considering purchase of the 1500l. There’s a fair chance any business looking for a printer in this end of the market won’t have an IT specialist, but the connecting software makes the job easy enough to do by just about anybody.
The quality of the printed page that will emerge from the 1500l is fairly bread-and-butter for Hewlett-Packard, meaning that 600 dots per inch is what will be delivered. As far as most business needs, this is more than acceptable and the quality of the page will be uniformly nice across the board. HP includes one of its image enhancement technology programs to ensure that it stays that way no matter the print job using the HP laser toners.
Random access memory included by Hewlett-Packard for this printer is also typical for the segment, at 16 MB. That can’t be increased, but it’s no big deal as well. Just take stock of the print load that this workgroup printer will be responsible for handling and everything should go fine. It is all controlled by a 150 MHz processor unit that keeps everything organized and under control.
The printer can print out on a wide variety of media types, including envelopes and transparencies and plain paper. It holds about 125 sheets of paper, so keep that in mind if the aim is to find a high paper storage printer. The maximum number of media types that can be stored can be as much as 375 pages in total, though it’s more likely that the 125-page capacity will be standard operating procedure.
As far as the durability of the 1500l, most experts rated this printer as excellent and with a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages, maintenance visits will be few and far between. Keep in mind that this is a true laser jet, meaning that an occasional replacement of its four printer cartridges will be required. It also runs on several different Mac OS and Windows-based operating systems, meaning it’s fairly versatile.
The HP Color LaserJet 1500l printer will work well in a small business workgroup setting that doesn’t need hugely complicated and large print files produced. It can be found for under 150 dollars online, which is a very nice price for a network color printer. It’s also durable enough and can print out at about 16 pages per minute in black-and-white, which is a nice print speed. Color comes out at 4 pages per minute, though. If you need replacement toners cartridges, which you will occasionally, search online for HP toners. You will specifically need HP Color LaserJet 1500L bulk toner to match your printer.
