Recommended Camera Accessories

For most digital reflex cameras a wide range of accessories is available. Some of them are a must have for an expensive camera:

- Extra battery: Usually the standard battery of a digital reflex camera has enough capacity to last for a few hundred of recordings. But when you’re on a trip it is much more relaxed if you don’t have to worry about recharging the battery of your camera. You might even go to places where it is not possible to use a charger.

- Protection foil for the lcd screen. This is a very thin layer of anti scratch plastic which will prevent damage to the lcd screen.

- Lens filter: There usually is a choice between a clear or a UV filters. The clear filter filters no incoming light and is used only for protection of the lens. A UV filter is used to filter out ultraviolet light, which causes haziness of images. UV filters are also transparant, at least for visible light, and can be kept on the lens almost all of the time.

- Lens shade: With some cameras it is part of the standard package, but sometimes it has to be bought as an extra accessory. If it is used the images will be clearer and have more contrast.

- Camera bag or back pack: After spending a small fortune on a camera, you don’t want it to damage or get full of dust. For a lot of cameras there is a special produced bag available, but you might want to check out the special photo back packs. Most back packs have a separate camera compartment which has extra foam padding and a large compartment which is for general use. The bags have special weather flaps for protection.

-Books: It sounds over the top but an instruction manual is only telling you what adjustments to make on the settings. It is never explaining why this has to be done. If you buy a book specially written for the brand of your camera, you will be able to use your new digital reflex camera to the max.

The World of iPhone

Welcome to the world of iPhone! From here there is no turning back! Well, of course there is, but there is a very big chance that once you’ve bought your first iPhone, you will never want to do without. Imagine making phone calls just by tapping a number or a name! You never have to use that too small window again, scrolling to find the right number or name.

An iPhone isn’t just about making easy calls, this is only a very small part of the phone: It has a QWERTY keybord for SMS, visual voicemail and you have the choice of more than half a million ringtones, because all the iPod features are part of the iPhone. The 3G has a 2 MP camera for the most beautiful pictures and by using Geotagging, it is possible to connect a picture to the location where the picture was taken.

It offers you instant web access through UMTS/HSDPA or Wifi. A miniature version of Apple’s Safari is installed with direct access to a searchengine (standard is Google, but Yahoo is also available).

For reading email there is an emailprogram that is capable of viewing html, so you can see the pictures and images used in a message. It can be used for both POP3 and IMAP and the settings for all major webbased email services like GMail or Yahoo Mail are preprogrammed.

Since the iPhone has a widescreen display, it can be used very well to watch movies, your own DVD videos or television shows. iTunes can be used to manage the mediafiles or to synchronize the iPhone with a PC. The built in map features will make sure you never get lost when you’re on the road, and besides the use of GPS, the iPhone is using the cell phone networks to calculate an even more accurate position. On Google Maps it is possible to follow the position of an iPhone.

But all these features aren’t making the iPhone the coolest phone available, it’s the use of available portals and their download services. An iPhone portal is the gateway to thousands of accessories, books, tutorials to get the most out of your iPhone, downloads and guides for repair.

A download service will give you access to their media transfer software and usually provides you with tutorials for transferring files to an iPhone. The software should support a wide range of video and image formats.

There are lots of services available, but search for one that suites you and preferably has the option of unlimited downloads for a one time fee. Another thing to look for is that it offers millions of, guaranteed spyware and popup free, files to download, 24 hour support service and a free (online) helpline.

Select A Home Theater

With so many home theaters being on the market nowadays, it is becoming more and more difficult to select the one that’s right for you. The following points should be taken into consideration when you want to buy a home theater:

Most of the all in one systems are more basic than the multi component systems. Usually both DTS and Dolby Digital decoders are included for handling the surround sound of DVD’s. The controls for the system should be easy to understand and preferably it has a front panel where all functions are labeled and grouped. A display on the front is easy, but it also should provide onscreen display (on the television) for controlling the receiver.

20 or more presets are generally available on the receiver to store your favorite FM or AM radio stations. A sleep timer (switching on or off at a preset time) is standard on most of the systems. If there is a remote control availabe. make sure that it is clearly labeled and easy to use. Always check if a universal remote is available, or can be used, so that all devices can be controlled by the same remote.

If video signals are switched through the receiver, you definitely need a component video or HDMI output you can connect to the TV, so you can enjoy the highest picture quality. S video output can also be used but is of slightly less quality. RF connection (antenna) or composite video connection have the lowest picture quality.

Both the component video and HDMI let you pipe the signals from an external device through the system. So this can be used for a digital camcorder or maybe a mp3 player. If you make regular use of such devices, select a home theater system which has front panel inputs.

If multiple devices are to be connected to the system, a switched AC outlet makes it possible to plug in every device to the home theater and this way every component can be switched on or off with one button.

Even the cheapest home theaters are equipped with DSP (for digital-signal processor) modes. This is the use of digital circuitry to duplicate the sound quality of, for example, a stadium. If there is a bass boost option available, it can be used to amplify the deeper sounds. And if you really want control over the bass tones, consider a system where the subwoofer is powered by itself. Usually those components offer more control than the unpowered subwoofers.

If you want a DVD player with lots of features, you need to get a stand alone player. The integrated DVD players that are available for some home theater systems, tend to have fewer options. Features like track repeat or the ability to program tracks are often not available on the all in one systems.
